૧૦:૧૦ Press. London.
CALL FOR SUBMISSION:
The Working Class Anthology.
૧૦:૧૦ Press will be creating a series of anthologies about Working Class. The Working Class experience, Working Class history and Working Class power. Each anthology will be themed and will include poetry, short stories, essays, illustrations and a few pages of a graphic story.
To be clear, this call is for published or unpublished writers and artists who identify themselves as being Working Class or with Working Class roots. Optional poverty (choosing a profession with a low income does not count).
Also, I am especially keen to see submissions from female unpublished writers and artists.
To be artistically active seems to be only for the young and this needs to change. This submission call will mainly be read by the younger generation and the request is for this generation to spread the word to the older generations or collaborate with them.
The theme for 2019 is language.
The writer can also submit their own illustrations/artwork or collaborate with an artist.
A few selected pieces will be considered for collaboration with an illustrator. This will take place after receiving the writer’s consent.
Visually, the words should be in harmony with the illustration/artwork, therefore I am requesting the illustration/artwork be in black and white.
No fan-fiction, hate speech, or excessive violence/gore/sex/crude language
Author and artist will return rights to their work, though if published authorisation is given automatically for ૧૦:૧૦ Press to use your work in relation to the anthology.
The editor has one essential criteria: if you regularly use plastic bags when shopping, please do not bother to submit. This is not something I can regulate or check, but a matter of principle. The editor is trying to recycle as much as possible. She is no angel, but is trying.
There is no deadline. This is an open submission window with the intention to publish the anthology in 2019.
Please submit up to a maximum of 3 poems and they should be no longer than 40 lines
Please submit up to a maximum of 3 short stories or 1 essay and I will consider 100 to 5,000 words in length.
If you want to, you can submit corresponding illustrations, either your own or in collaboration with an artist.
If you would like to submit a few pages of a graphic story, please initially email with your storyboard idea.
All work submitted must be original and must also be previously unpublished. If it has already been published on any social media sites, it will need to be permanently removed if selected for the anthology.
Please submit in one Word/PDF document, Times New Roman, double spaced, 12-point and title the file as follows: Last Name_First Name_The White Working Class Anthology.
If there are technical requirements you cannot meet because you are not familiar with computers or software, then please disregard the requirement and submit with an explanation.
Also, include a short bio of no more than 50 words and if you have one, your social media handle.
The size of the anthology will be 6 x 9 inches.
This is a self-funded project and therefore I cannot offer a fee to those poets and artist published in the anthology. One complimentary copy of the anthology will be given to each published writer and artist.
Not all submissions are guaranteed acceptance into the anthology.
All authors retain the rights to their work and simultaneous submissions are allowed, but if your work is later accepted elsewhere, please let me know.
Please send all submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
